Will it work on my iPhone / Pixel / Galaxy?

Most phones sold in 2018 or later support eSIM. iPhone XS and later: yes. Pixel 3 and later: yes. Galaxy S20 FE and later: yes. Some China-region variants of these phones have eSIM disabled — check our device compatibility list. Compatibility is confirmed before payment at checkout.

Does it work on the Shinkansen?

Accepted Answer

Yes. KDDI and Softbank both have continuous coverage along Shinkansen routes. Some long tunnel sections will drop briefly, but reconnect immediately after exit. Coverage in the train cars themselves is the same as carrier coverage outside.

Question 3

Can I top up without reinstalling the eSIM?

Accepted Answer

Yes — up to 10 times per eSIM. Add data and validity to your existing eSIM from your account, no new QR code needed. After 10 top-ups, the eSIM must be replaced. We'll send you a new one automatically before that limit hits.

Is this cheaper than Airalo or Saily?

Accepted Answer

On most SKUs, yes. Our 10GB / 30 Days at $14.99 is below Airalo's $18.00 and Saily's $17.99 for equivalent plans. Can I use WhatsApp / Zoom / FaceTime?

Data-only eSIM. Works with internet-based apps including messaging such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and iMessage, plus maps, email, web browsing, and most social media. App-based voice and video calls such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Zoom, and Google Meet may work where supported by the app and local network conditions. This plan does not include a local phone number, traditional voice calls, or SMS.

Is Driftvoy a phone carrier?

No. Driftvoy is an online retailer of prepaid travel eSIM data plans. We don't operate mobile networks or issue phone numbers — your data runs on established local carriers, provided through licensed upstream connectivity partners.

What happens after my data runs out?

Accepted Answer

Your eSIM stops working until you top up or buy a new plan. You'll receive email alerts at 75% and 90% data usage so you know it's coming. Top-up is one click from your account.

Question 8

Does it support hotspot / tethering?

Accepted Answer

Yes, on all plans. Tethering shares your eSIM data with other devices at no extra cost. Useful for working from cafes with a laptop.

What if my eSIM doesn't activate when I land?

Accepted Answer

We charge when you order. If your eSIM isn't delivered or fails to activate, you get a full refund. Our support team responds within 48 hours, in English.
